Across Sri Lanka, there are families who continue to live between hope and uncertainty. Years after conflict and periods of unrest, many mothers, fathers, spouses, and children are still searching for answers about loved ones who disappeared.
During our community engagements, we have met families who continue to keep photographs, documents, and personal belongings of those who never returned home. Their greatest request is not compensation. It is the right to know the truth.
The uncertainty affects every aspect of life. Families struggle emotionally, economically, and socially. Many elderly parents continue their search despite declining health, hoping that one day they will receive confirmation about the fate of their children.
Human rights are not only about protection from harm. They are also about dignity, truth, and justice. Every family deserves clear answers regarding the whereabouts of their loved ones.
As a community organization, Helping Hands Ceylon believes that supporting these families begins with listening to their stories, preserving their voices, and advocating for their right to information and closure.
True reconciliation cannot be achieved while thousands continue to live with unanswered questions. The right to know remains a fundamental human right that deserves continued attention and action.
